The Selective Laser Sintering of Polycarbonate

چکیده

This paper investigates thermal modelling of the selective laser sintering process for amorphcus polycarbonate powders. The aim is to develop a simulation for process accuracy and control which are key areas of developement for the new layer manufacturing rapid prototyping technologies. A state-of-the-art adaptive mesh 2 0 finite difference code is used simultaneously to consider heating and sintering and its results compared with a classical moving heat source model and with experiments. The analysis shows that the change of material thermal properties with temperature and particularly with position as densification takes place must be included for accurate prediction of both densification and of the phenomenon known as 'bonus 2'. The work forms a basis for moving to a 3D simulation. Kevwords : Rapid prototyping, Sintering, Thermal modelling

Preliminary experience with selective laser sintering models of the human temporal bone.

PURPOSE To assess the accuracy of three-dimensional models of the human temporal bone generated from CT data. METHODS Thin-section CT of a left human cadaveric temporal bone was performed using multiple-scan planes (axial, coronal, and sagittal) at 1.5-mm section thickness and 0.25-mm pixel size with an edge-enhancement two-dimensional algorithm. CT data were converted to toggle point format ...

Finite element analysis of temperature and density distributions in selective laser sintering process

In the selective laser sintering (SLS) manufacturing technique a pre-heated layer of material powder undergoes a laser radiation in a selective way to produce three dimensional metallic or polymeric solid parts. Here, we consider sintering of polymer powder. The phase transformation in this process involves the material heat transfer which is strongly affected by the material sintering phenomen...

Size Distribution Particle Modes Surface approximation Geometric Mode

Surfaces of polycarbonate Selective Laser Sintering parts are investigated to determine the characteristics aaecting part quality. Surfaces are obtained from experiments by varying four factors, namely, layer thickness, laser power, part orientation, and build angle. First, spatial modes on SLS surfaces are decomposed using a qualitative spectral analysis in an attempt to nd their origins. Ther...
